The intrigues expected to follow the announcement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees began Wednesday with a Senator opposing the nomination of former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
The president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday unveiled the partial list of 21 ministerial nominees, including Mr. Amaechi.
At the plenary on Wednesday, George Sekibo (PDP- Rivers East) raised a point of order to tell the Senate that he had a petition from his constituents against Mr. Amaechi’s nomination and asked that he be allowed to submit the petition before the Senate.
But Mr. Sekibo’s announcement met resistance from All Progressives Congress Senators who instantly kicked with shouts of “no no no”.
The situation resulted in a shouting match between APC and PDP Senators, with the former bloc opposing the latter’s insistence on that the petition be laid for hearing.
However, Mr. Saraki, intervened, calling for “order!”
He allowed Mr. Sekibo to proceed with the submission of the petition.
In his remarks following the drama, he said the Senate had no reason to avoid hearing of public petitions brought by legislators in respect of the screening of the ministerial nominees.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/191137-rivers-senator-rejects-amaechis-ministerial-nomination.html
